Success Story for Lesli

Our team attended the Institute for Biomedical Entrepreneurship (IBE) to assess its usefulness in training our PIs from the University of Wisconsin – Madison that want to form startups. We found that the IBE course offers intense entrepreneurial training that focuses on the business aspects of building a startup as well as the science. It culminates with the creation of a pitch deck that the project team presents to VCs and other successful entrepreneurs. The feedback from the review team was insightful and led to the improvement of the business plans. They also provided recommendations and offered to make contacts to potential VCs and business partners.
Attendees include teams from industry as well as academia, so PIs can interact directly with R&D professionals from pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Participants also gain access to a network of mentors and business contacts that can be utilized for current and future programs.
Overall, we would recommend IBE for any academic interested in forming a biotech startup. We are so impressed with IBE that we plan on sending UW-Madison entrepreneurs to IBE this Spring.

The IBE Difference

The IBE brings the specialized know-how and the funding required for translational development success.

The IBE is a lean operating company that uses disciplined processes, leverages existing resources (incubators, CROs), and taps into expert networks to work on many product opportunities in parallel, rather than trying to build one startup at a time.
